Here is a nice starter on surds from Mr Barton’s lovely website. It’s aimed at C1 level but can be adapted to suit lower years, especially with a very able class.





Introduction to Surds – a Powerpoint presentation with a little investigation about square roots and some simple surds for pupils to simplify.





  1. i have just looked at these surd questions. I am in year 11 and i am going to do the Higher tier in Maths but for the past 5 years i have always done Foundation. I tried revising for Surds and i needed practice questions. I think these are really suitable for testing me.

  2. Iam in year 11 and have done all the examples above and got them all correct, BUT when i do the examquestions.doc, iam not sure if i got them right as there is no answers page… could someone kindly write all the answers to the exam-questions-on-surds.doc, in the comment box. THANKYOU
