I have had a few requests for different ideas for maths starters.
There is a lovely website that provides a different maths starter for each day of the year. You can search the archives and it works very well with a data projector: http://www.transum.org/software/SW/Starter_of_the_day/
Here are some more nice sites with lots of ideas for mental starters:
Mr Gallinagh’s Maths Starters - an excellent program of 10 questions for any topic you like. You can specify how much time you give for each of the questions. Can also be used as a test at the end of a lesson to find out how much pupils have learned.
Super Maths World - some of the games are for free. Others you need to be registered to use.
I love Maths Games - puzzles, games and starters
Calculator Activites - 15 short problems and games designed to make use of a calculator. Ideal for lesson starters.
If you come across any other good sites with starters on, please post them as comments below this post. Thanks a lot!
